Car Porn Deluxe- Turner Motorsport's M6- Journey to 24
The news of Turner's move into the GT class and entry in the Daytona 24 has not only captured the attention of BMW racing fans worldwide, but also documentary filmmaking company Veloz Media, who is producing a behind-the-scenes Web TV series to chronicle the team's tremendous efforts and journey to the 24 hour race. This video production will provide a behind-closed-doors experience of preparing for and making it through this race of endurance and perseverance. A "teaser" video has been posted on the web and can be viewed at www.TurnerMotorsport.com/journey24.

Koni Challenge Watkin Glen 2009 - Auberlen / Hand Dual View
Great battle at the Glen between Joey Hand and Bill Auberlen in the Turner Motorsports e46 M3's. I'll use Turner Motorsports' decription of the clip so that I don't get blasted for being a spoiler about the outcome of the race.
This is DUAL in-car footage from both the #96 Turner Motorsport BMW M3 and the #97 Turner Motorsport BMW M3. From Round 6 of the Grand-Am KONI Challenge race at Watkins Glen, June 7, 2009. Footage begins with Bill & Joey coming in for their final pit-stop (under a full course caution) to take fuel and tires. The video then skips ahead a few minutes to the restart -- where some SERIOUS nose-to-tail racing ensues. Both Bill and Joey fight their way through some seriously dense traffic to make their way back up to the front positions. Once the ST class traffic has been cleared, the video jumpt to a battle with 2 mustangs, and lastly to Bill and Joey trying to fend off a Porsche. In the end, the TRG Porsche piloted by Andy Lally is able to get by both Bill and Joey's Turner M3s to win the race, though not without a hard fight from the TMS BMWs.
Check out the complete race this weekend on Speed TV It airs at 2PM EST. Enjoy!

Grand-Am Koni Challenege - Joey Hand's M3 battles Andy Lally for the win at Lime Rock
Here's some great in-car footage of Joey Hand and Andy Lally battling for the lead at the Grand-Am Koni Challenge race from Lime Rock this past weekend.
It's been said that Lime Rock favors BMW's but both drivers clearly show that they are the best out there. Special credit has to go to Joey Hand, driving the Turner Motorsports e46 M3 against the newer, lighter and more aerodynamic, TRG Porsche 911. Great Stuff. Thanks to Turner motorsports for the clip. Enjoy!

The BMWCCA
While reading through some back issues of Roundel magazine I noticed that many of the letters addressed to the editor were negative and some were truly nasty. Most of the negative ones were complaints about the cars themselves, i.e., the look of the cars, the feel of the cars, how the cars had grown to be too big, or how some models were too small inside. Some folks complained about the transmission, or squeaks behind the dashboard, or uneven tire wear, the list seemed to go on forever. Still others complained about the club itself. How it didn't provide enough of one thing or anotherI was saddened by their comments, not only because their grew boring quickly, but because my experiences as a BMWCCA member have been completely different from theirs. In the short three years that I have been with the BMWCCA I have had the opportunity to,
- Meet Steve Dinan and have him show me downloads from their Grand-Am program as well as invite me to Morgan Hill to drive a M5 prototype
- Have Sabine Schmitz as a driving instructor at Road America with the Badger Bimmers (thanks again to Jeff Joy)
- Tour the Team PTG paddock with Tom Milner and meet Bill Auberlen, Joey Hand, Justin Marks, and Tom Milner Jr.
- Meet the Bimmerworld team, James Clay and Seth Thomas,
- Learn car control and become a better driver
- Meet a bunch of non-famous, but really decent people.
And in the interest of providing some example of the things that make the BMWCCA a blast I thought that I would post a couple of clips of drivers that I have had the opportunity to meet and chat with. One from Bill Auberlen, factory BMW pilot, and another from James Clay, who started his career as a BMW Club Racer and progressed from there.
Here's Bill Auberlen at Road America
Here is James Clay at Sebring
